Signs you're seeing this

A Central Florida AC is sized to pull the indoor temperature roughly 20 degrees below whatever it is outside. When it is 95 and humid in Oviedo, a healthy system holds the house around 75. The moment anything robs it of capacity, a clogged coil, a weak capacitor, a slow refrigerant leak, that 20-degree margin collapses and the unit runs and runs without ever catching up. So "running but not cooling" almost always means the system is working fine mechanically but has lost part of its cooling power.
The four causes we find most often
First, a dirty condenser or evaporator coil. Florida pollen, grass clippings, and dust blanket the outdoor coil and the system can no longer dump heat. Second, low refrigerant from a small leak, which starves the system and often freezes the indoor coil on top of it. Third, a failing run capacitor, a five-dollar part that leaves the compressor or fan straining. Fourth, an undersized or aging system that was never quite big enough for the load and now cannot keep up on the worst days. A trained tech reads all four in one visit with a set of gauges and a meter.
What you can check before you call
Pull the air filter. If it is gray and packed, replace it, that alone restores airflow on a surprising number of calls. Walk to the outdoor unit and clear the leaves and grass off the fins, then hose it down gently. Make sure no supply vents are closed and the return is not blocked by furniture. If the house still will not cool after that, stop, because running a starved or low-refrigerant system for days is how a repair turns into a compressor replacement.
When to get a tech out
If the airflow is fine, the filter and coil are clean, and the house still climbs through the afternoon, it is a refrigerant or electrical problem and it needs gauges.
